Book Club: How To

Book Club Overview

Could do a quarterly book club and treat it like a “Favorite Things Party” where each person brings two books.

Ideas

  • Once a month (first Friday?)
  • Have everyone read the same book (?)
  • Let everyone choose their own book (?)

Concept

  • Team members who are interested join us once a month to have a conversation on the book they are reading and how it relates to their life.

Mission, Vision, Purpose

  • Mission
    • To bring the team together outside the work environment and do something that is not work-specific but will make us better people.
  • Vision
    • Spend thirty minutes the second Friday of every month to discuss the book, what we thought, bring up conversations regarding the book, etc.
  • Purpose
    • To hold each other accountable and make real connections on something we are all doing together.

To Do

  • Decide:
    • Same book or let everyone choose each time?
      • Start with the same one. Physical book only.
    • If it’s the same book for everyone, do we supply it?
      • MP to supply the book (either paperback or audible)
    • How much to read between meetings?
      • One book per month
    • When to meet and for how long?
      • Last Thursday – 30 minutes.
    • When is the first meeting?
      • January 28th
    • When will we decide the first book? Right now.
      • Traction by Gino Wickman
    • Agenda for each meeting?
      • Have a “Lead Read” of whoever chose the book.
      • Top 5 passages.
      • Bring up thoughts from the book.
    • How do we pick a book?
      • Take turns choosing. MP to choose the first one.
    • How to make sure people are reading? Do we need to check in more than once a month?
      • Check in halfway through the book.
    • Is there a punishment for not reading?
      • No (for now)

Homework

  • Announce Book Club and Book (PJ)
  • Add to the calendar (PJ)
  • Promote the club to clients, Realtors, etc.
  • Add the event to the Events page on MM (after PJ finalizes)
  • Get the book and make sure it is the right one. Then buy for PJ and SH. (MP)

Book Club Agenda

  • Recap what we read
  • Have a discussion
  • Ask questions (?)

Book Ideas

  • Win in the dark
